Abstract
The core part that builds a paragraph is the problem in the main thought or known as the main idea which is in the topic sentence. The use of topic sentences as a clue to the direction of what is discussed in the paragraph. The purpose of this study: (1) To find the content of description paragraphs in Kompas.com news text about Prabowo-Gibran in the 2024 Election. (2) To describe the development of descriptive paragraphs in Kompas.com news texts about Prabowo-Gibran in the 2024 Election. (3) To describe the utilization of descriptive paragraphs in Kompas.com news text about Prabowo-Gibran in the 2024 Election as Indonesian language teaching materials for grade VII in junior 1 high school. This type of research is qualitative with descriptive method. The research data is in the form of description paragraphs. The data source is Kompas.com news text in January-February 2024. Data collection techniques using listening and note-taking techniques. With data analysis techniques agih and padan methods. The results of the study were 17 paragraphs of place description. There are 27 paragraphs of people description. Of the 44 description paragraphs can be classified into paragraph development which is divided into comparison, question, cause-effect, example, repetition, definition, cause-effect, and classification paragraphs. The utilization of teaching materials for Indonesian language learning in class VII junior high school used is a description paragraph of people relevant to the element of who in the news text.
