Abstract
Education is fundamental for every child in the world, including children with special needs. Based on the data, the number of children with special needs is increasing every year, while special education facilities in Indonesia are currently far from sufficient to accommodate and provide access to proper and fair education for children with special needs. A number of factors that influence the lack of equitable special education facilities and infrastructure are because the level of special schools is often neglected, so that many special schools have inadequate facilities. Along with the growth in the number of students with special needs, the Pati District Government plans to relocate SLB Negeri Pati, which is the SLB with the largest number of students in Pati District. The lack of facilities and the lack of land for the expansion of the school makes SLB Negeri Pati will be relocated to a new location that is more spacious, so that in the future it can accommodate more students for long-term development. In addition to using the standards set by the government, special schools must be designed through an approach that is able to respond to users, namely students with special needs where the school environment plays an important role in the development of students both mentally and physically. Therefore, the design of this building will use the Therapeutic Environment approach, taking into account various aspects of the environment.
