Abstract

The application of a less than ideal learning process often presents problems in the implementation process for students such as academic demands that must be completed leading to academic stress or academic burnout. The research objective is to examine the relationship between the big five personality and locus of control with academic burnout. Using a quantitative approach with the subject of 78 students of Madrasah Aliyah Assalaam, taken by purposive sampling technique. Retrieval of data with a scale of academic burnout, big five personality, and locus of control given to the subject in the form of paper media. Data analysis technique using multiple linear regression. The results of the analysis show that there is a significant relationship between big five personality and locus of control with academic burnout (p = 0,006 < 0,05). There is a negative relationship between openness and academic burnout (p = 0,019 < 0,05 and r value – 0,235). There is a negative relationship between conscientiousness and academic burnout (p = 0,000 < 0,05 and the value of r – 0,425). There is a negative relationship between extraversion and academic burnout (p = 0,023 < 0,05 and r value – 0,228). There is no significant relationship between agreeableness and academic burnout (p = 0,405 > 0,05 and the value of r – 0,028). There is a positive relationship between neuroticism and academic burnout (p = 0,037 <0,05 and r value is 0,204). There is no significant relationship between locus of control and academic burnout (p = 0,279 > 0,05 and the value of r – 0,067). The effective contribution of the two independent variables is 22,2% with details of the contribution of openness 3,901%, the contribution of conscientiousness 17,4675%, the contribution of extraversion 0,7068%, the contribution of agreeableness 0,266%, the contribution of neuroticism 0,3264%, the contribution of locus of control 0,017% , while 78% related to others.
