Abstract

Spot Welding (Resistance Spot Welding) is a type of welding that is often used by clamping objects between two electrified copper electrodes. This study aims to determine the mechanical properties of galvanized steel after undergoing a welding process using current and time variations of 4000 A and 5000 A with 0.4 seconds and 0.5 seconds respectively, this welding uses electrodes with good electrical conductors, namely copper. , this test was carried out to find out if physical and mechanical tests were carried out using tensile testing with ASTM E8, for chemical composition using ASTM E425-08, for microstructure testing with ASTM E3-01 standards, and bending testing with ASTM E910 standards. The results of the tensile test produced the highest average tensile stress value at a current of 5000 Amperes with a time of 0.5 the average tensile stress value was (31.79 N/mm²) while the highest strain value was at a current of 5000 Amperes with a time of 0.5 (2.94mm). The results of testing the microstructure of the galvanized plate with a magnification of 200x found the elements of ferrite (light color) and pearlite (dark color). It is known that the greater the current, the clearer the ferrite and pearlite grains. The results of testing the chemical composition of the galvanized steel plate contained 18 elements which could be interpreted that the material was a galvanized iron plate. Based on the test results obtained are low carbon galvanized steel plates with carbon below 2%, Based on the results obtained the main constituent content is Iron (Fe) of 99.54%, Carbon (C) of 0.0053%. And the results of the bending test are known to produce the highest average stress value occurring at a current of 4000 Ampere with a time of 0.4 the average tensile stress value is (359 N/mm²) while the highest deflection value is at a current of 4000 Amperes with a time of 0.4 of ( 34mm). The highest value of the elastic modulus is based on the average value in the table of current variants, the highest value is at a current of 5000 Amperes with a time of 0.5 seconds with a value of (31 N/mm³) and the highest stiffness value is at a current of 5000 Amperes with a time of 0.5 seconds with a value of (44 kgf/m²).
