Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe the implementation of character education through school culture at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Gemolong, the character values instilled through school culture at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Gemolong, and the supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of character education through school culture at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Gemolong. This research is a qualitative research with an ethnographic approach with data collection techniques by interviews, observation, and documentation. The object of this research is character education of students through school culture at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Gemolong and the research subjects are school principals, vice principals of the curriculum section, teachers of Islamic religious education, and students. The data validation technique is in the form of triangulation which is divided into two types, namely source triangulation and technical triangulation. The stages of data analysis include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. This research resulted that SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Gemolong implements character education through habituation which then becomes a culture, such as tadarus al-Qur'an, congregational prayers, congregational Friday prayers, 5S culture, literacy movement, healthy Friday, religious Friday, clean Friday, discipline culture , and morning apple. The instilled character values include attitude, religious, responsibility, honesty, social, and discipline values. Factors that support and hinder the implementation of education include supporting factors such as support from all related parties, adequate infrastructure, and adequate teacher resources. Inhibiting factors include the different backgrounds of students, lack of awareness of students, and the family environment of students.
