Abstract
The prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls in Indonesia in 2018 was still quite high at 32%. In Central Java Province, the prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls was 48,9%, while the prevalence of anemia in Nguter in 2015 was 51%. This can be said to be a nutritional problem because the prevalence of anemia in Nguter is higher than in Central Java Province. Hemoglobin levels can be affected by several factors, one of which is low intake of iron and vitamin C. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between intake of iron and vitamin C with hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls at SMA N 1 Nguter Sukoharjo. This study used an analytic observational with a cross-sectional research design. The sample was selected by simple random sampling with a total of 74 respondents. Data collection of respondents’s identity used a questionnaire. Data on iron intake and vitamin C intake were obtained used the Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ) form in the last 3 months and hemoglobin levels used the Cyanmethemoglobin method. Data analysis used Spearman's Rank test. The results of this study showed normal hemoglobin levels were 47%, iron intake was in the less category 48,6% and vitamin C intake was in the more category 48,6%. There is a significant correlation between iron intake and vitamin C intake with hemoglobin levels. It’s hoped that the school and local puskesmas can work together in expanding education regarding the impact of abnormal hemoglobin levels and the importance of increasing intake of iron and vitamin C.
