Abstract

This study aims to describe how the role of the principal of SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta in improving and maintaining the quality of education at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. The background of this research is how the role of the principal in improving the quality of education in SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. In this case, how exactly is the role played by the principal as a leader in improving the quality of education so that education in schools can run well and in accordance with the vision and mission as well as the goals to be achieved. With that, a problem can be formulated, namely how is the role of the principal of SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta in improving the quality of education and how is the principal's efforts at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarata in maintaining the quality of education. The type of research used in this study is qualitative research with descriptive methods with the intention of being able to describe what is currently applicable. In obtaining valid data and supporting this research, the writer uses interview, observation and documentation methods in order to collect data. Then the data analysis technique that the author uses uses deductive thinking methods, namely drawing conclusions based on general conditions, or there are specific findings from the general ones. Then use analytical steps such as data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. In this study it can be concluded that the principal's role as managerial includes 4 points, including planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising. The role of the principal as the supervisor of the given supervision is in the form of consultation and guidance assistance to teachers so that they can improve the quality of learning. The principal's role as entrepreneurship is based on the spirit of developing quality, in order to become a quality learning organization, principals must work creatively and innovatively. In maintaining the quality of education, the role of the Principal of SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta cannot be separated from the vision, mission and goals of education itself. Based on this, it is then executed in ways such as forming a commitment to the teachers and employees in the school, providing motivation both for yourself and the entire community in the school to build organizational productivity and improve work efficiency, continuing the programs from the principal. before and develop along with the times, and always provide opportunities for teachers to increase the potential that exists in themselves.
