Abstract

Expression of praise is one of the important speech acts for building and maintaining social relations in everyday life. This study aims to (1) Described the forms and classifying the type of "praise" in the novel of Samudra by Nisrina Haqque; (2) Described the use as teaching material for Indonesian in junior high school class IX. This research is a type of qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The research data source was obtained from the novel Samudra by Nisrina Haqque. Data collection techniques using refer and record techniques. Data validity examination techniques using the theory triangulation. Data analysis techniques using the agih and padan methods. The agih method with techniques for direct elements, while the matching method is to determine the type and function of expressions of praise. The results showed that: (1) The forms and classification of praise found in the novel of Samudra by Nisrina Haqque consisted of declarative sentence forms, interrogative sentences, and imperative sentences. Classification of Expression of Praise found in the Samudra novel by Nisrina Haqque consists of praise for physical appearance (32.4%), ability (26.5%), personality (17.6%), ownership (17, 6%), and quality (5.9%). This type of praise for physical appearance is a dominant type of praise in the novel text. Praise about this physical appearance gives an expression of an admiration for the physical appearance of a person; (2) The use of expressions of praise as teaching materials that are quite relevant for students. In accordance with KD 3.7: Identifying information in the form of criticism, rebuttal, or praise from the text read or heard. Praise brings positive feelings caused by someone to pay attention to the work, deeds, words, other students who are considered to have value. The expression of praise in the novel as teaching material is one of the innovative and creative learning. The selection of teaching materials has been adjusted to the age level and meets the criteria in accordance with the basic competencies to be achieved.
