Abstract
The aims of this study are (1) to describe the figurative language style found in Astrida Hara's Sakura Kanazawa novel, and (2) to describe the relevance of figurative language style in Astrida Hara's Sakura Kanazawa novel as a teaching material for Indonesian literature in high school. This research belongs to the type of qualitative research. The research design used in this research is descriptive qualitative. This research is not tied to a particular place. The subject of this research is the novel Sakura Kanazawa by Astrida Hara. The object of this research is the figurative language style contained in Sakura Kanazawa by Astrida Hara. The data in this study are in the form of words, utterances, phrases, paragraphs, clauses, sentences or expressions that contain figurative language styles. The data source of this research is the novel Sakura Kanazawa. The technique used in data collection is a close reading technique. The validity of the data in this study used the theory of triangulation techniques. This study uses data analysis techniques with semiotic model reading methods including heuristic and hermeneutic readings, as well as using interactive data analysis. Based on the results of research in the novel Sakura Kanazawa by Astrida Hara, it was found (1) ten types of figurative language styles, out of ten types of figurative language styles there are one hundred and seventy-six expressions containing figurative language styles. The most dominant use of figure of speech in the novel Sakura Kanazawa by Astrida Hara is metaphorical figure of speech which consists of forty-three expressions. (2) The relevance of this research as a literature teaching material in high school is (a) the potential use of the results of this research in Indonesian language lessons in high school class XII. This is in line with the basic competence (KD) 3.9 contained in the 2013 curriculum, namely finding the content (intrinsic and extrinsic elements) and linguistics (expressions, figure of speech, proverbs) of novels. (b) The novel Sakura Kanazawa by Astrida Hara is relevant to be used as a literature teaching material in high school because it meets the criteria for suitability aspects, namely language aspects, psychological aspects, and environmental aspects.
