Abstract
This study examines the errors in the use of conjunctions in narrative essays by class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kedunggalar. The purpose of this study is to describe the errors in the use of conjunctions in narrative essays by class XI students of SMAN 1 Kedunggalar in 2022. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive analysis. The source of the data in this research is the narrative essays of Class XI students of SMAN 1 Kedunggalar. The data in this research are sentences that have errors in the use of conjunctions in the narrative essays of class XI students of SMAN 1 Kedunggalar. The data collection technique in this study was to perform a composing test. The data analysis technique carried out by the researcher is, first, the researcher collects data by reading and observing the contents of the narrative essays of class XI students of SMAN 1 Kedunggalar. Second, the researcher identified language errors, especially errors in terms of the use of conjunctions. Third, the researcher identified the use of conjunctions in the essay based on the types of errors. Fourth, the researcher records and classifies errors according to their type to make justifications. The results of the study show that the use of conjunctions that are the most widely used and have the most errors by the teachers are (1) coordinating conjunctions which express addition and coordinating conjunctions which state sorting, (2) subordinating conjunctions which state purpose and subordinating conjunctions which express timing, (3) conjunctions express purpose. The conclusion of this study is that based on the results of data analysis, the total number of errors in the narrative essays of class XI students of SMAN 1 Kedunggalar collected was 36 errors. The form of error in this study is the inaccuracy in the use of conjunctions in narrative essays. Mistakes in using conjunctions in students' narrative essays include coordinating conjunctions stating addition, selection, affirmation, sorting. Errors in using subordinating conjunctions include conjunctions that state the cause, requirement, purpose,presentation, timing.
