Abstract

Building and developing good character is the basis of education. A teacher as an educator must provide an understanding of various good characters to be instilled in students. One of these characters is fond of reading. This study aims to describe the characteristics of the value of reading in SMP Angkasa and find out its improvement efforts in learning Pancasila and Citizenship Education and its inhibiting factors. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a case study design. Data collection uses observation, interview, and documentation methods. Data analysis techniques use interactive analysis models with stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Test the validity of the data using source trianggulation and techniques. The results of this study show that the characteristics of the value of love to read in students at SMP Angkasa are reflected in the existence of Literacy activities. At SMP Angkasa itself, there are 2 literacy activities, namely class literacy and library visit literacy. Class literacy is that students are required to read approximately 10 minutes before the teacher gives lessons and literacy visits the library which is carried out every two weeks on a rotating basis in each class for five days. Efforts are made to improve the character of the value of reading in learning Pancasila and Citizenship Education, namely by providing a flipbook that can be read with friends, looking for other refrections by watching short videos about the subject matter, and using kahoot media by utilizing facilities at the Computer Laboratory. Inhibiting factors include making Flipbook teaching materials, namely requiring a longer preparation time, lack of the latest book collections, limited material books, and e-libraries that require internet signals, as well as a less conducive atmosphere during the learning process.
