Abstract

Introduction: Adolescent knowledge regards to balanced nutrition plays an important role in choosing and consuming food. The better a person's nutritional knowledge, the better food selection will be. Nutrition education is given to change knowledge, attitudes and direct individual behavior to better food intake. RISKESDAS data in 2018 which stated that the nutritional status of adolescents based on body mass index by age had a prevalence of thinness in boys 11.8% and in girls 4.7%, while the prevalence of obesity in boys is 14.9% and in girls is 14.5%. Furthermore, it was found that chronic nutritional problems were found in 21 regencies/cities, one of which was in Karanganyar. The aim of this nutrition education is that it can be a solution in order to improve the nutritional status and health status of adolescents by conveying information about nutrition by using animated videos as one of the effective media. Research Methodology: This study used a quasi-experimental research design with one group pretest posttest with a saturated sample of 43 from the total population of all seventh-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Karanganyar. Moreover, the nutrition education method through animated video media was conducted online for 15 minutes via Zoom Meeting with 3 repetitions of the material via WhatsApp Group. The data which were collected included data on the characteristics of respondents through a direct questionnaire as many as 19 questions; besides, nutrition knowledge materials which were taken from YouTube channel entitled "Balanced Nutrition" for 8 minutes. The data was processed by scoring, the correct answer was given a score of 0. The data was analyzed with univariate to see characteristics of respondents and bivariate to see the increase knowledge of balanced nutrition of the respondents. Research Results: The results of the pretest showed that an average of 59.72 and students with good knowledge category were 13.95%. Meanwhile, the results of posttest showed that an average of 72.09 and students with category were 51.16%. Based on Wilcoxon test results there was an increase in students' knowledge of balanced nutrition with p-value = 0.000. Many students experienced an increase in knowledge as much as 44.18%. Conclusion: There was an increase in knowledge of balanced nutrition before and after the provision of nutrition education through animated video media for junior high school students in Karanganyar. Thus, with this research student can implement their knowledge of balanced nutrition in their daily food consumption; besides, they can improve health status.
