Abstract
Low birth weight (LBW) is the cause of the high infant mortality rate in Indonesia. The prevalence of LBW in Indonesia is still high. LBW can be caused by several factors, including chronic energy deficiency (CED) an anemia in pregnant women. Babies born LBW conditions are at risk of slowing growth and development, and are prone to chronic disease in the future. To determine the relationship between chronic energy deficiency and anemia in pregnant women with the incidence of LBW in Tirtomoyo II Public Health Center Wonogiri Regency. This study is an analytical observational study with a case-control design. This study uses secondary data from Tirtomoyo II Public Health Center in 2019 and 2020. The sample in the study amounted to 62 respondents, consisting of 31 case samples and 31 control samples who were determined using a simple random sampling technique. CED respondents who gave birth to LBW babies were 32,3% and anemia respondents who gave birth to LBW babies were 6,5%. The result of Chi-square test showed that there was a relationship between CED in pregnant women with the incidence of LBW (OR 6,9; 95% CI 1,4 – 34,8) and there was a relationship between anemia in pregnant women with the incidence of LBW (OR 0,2; 95% CI 0,04 – 1,03). The high prevalence of LBW at Tirtomoyo II Public Health Center is caused by CED and anemia during pregnancy, so that it become a priority problem that needs to be resolved by Tirtomoyo II Public Health Center by providing nutritional counseling to pregnant women and always monitoring the mid upper arm circumference (MUAC) and hemoglobin levels in pregnant women.
