Abstract
Feeling different from other people due to an imperfect physical condition makes people with disabilities experience less self-confidence. One of the factors that is strongly suspected of having a role in the self-confidence of persons with disabilities is self-acceptance. People with disabilities who can accept their shortcomings make them more confident, on the contrary, people with disabilities who are less able to accept themselves have low levels of self-confidence. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-acceptance and self-confidence in persons with physical disabilities. The research was conducted by taking research subjects at the BBRSPDF (Center for the Social Rehabilitation of People with Physical Disabilities) DR. Soeharso, Solo, as many as 35 people. The data collection method used a self-acceptance and self-confidence scale, which was then analyzed correlationally using the product moment technique, with the help of SPSS 16.0. The results of this study indicate that there is a very significant positive correlation between self-acceptance and self-confidence in persons with physical disabilities (rxy = 0.722 with p = 0.000 (p<0.01)). In other words, the higher the self-acceptance of persons with physical disabilities, the higher their self-confidence. The effective contribution obtained from R Square = 0.521 which means that the influence of self-acceptance on self-confidence is 52.1% and the remaining 47.9% is influenced by other factors not discussed in this study. These results also show that the physical deficiencies experienced by a person make that person less confident.
