Abstract
This study center around the depiction of gay in American movie entitled Love, Simon (2018). This study wanted to finds out (1) What is the indicators of defense of homosexuality in Love, Simon movie? (2) How is defense of homosexuality depicted in the Love, Simon movie? (3) Why did Greg Berlanti defend the sexual orientation rights in the Love, Simon movie?. The queer theory is used to analyze the topic and the issue in the study. The Judith Butler queer theory was used to examine the indicator of homosexuals. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The result of the study are : (1) The indicators of defense of homosexuality depicted in the movie are: Struggling to Coming Out as a Homosexual, Increasing the Acceptance of Homosexual, Changing Negative Perspective About the Homosexual, And Supporting The Homosexuals from Family and Friends. (2) The Depiction Of Defense Of Homosexuality Depicted In The Movie, which include the intrinsic elements such as Characterization, Plot, Setting and Style. (3) The Reason Greg Berlanti Defend the Sexual Orientation Rights in The Movie. Berlanti openly reveals his gender identity as a gay. Here some reason why he wants to emphasize LGBT on the movie. To give representation about gay to the society that is related to his experience when he was a teenager. To held a fundraiser to support the LGBTQ comunity, To introduce the LGBT characters through TV Series and Movie.
