Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' critical thinking skills in solving HOTS-based social arithmetic problems in class VII. This type of research uses an approach and the design used in this research is a case study. This research was conducted in MTs. Khozinatul 'Ulum is located in Deluwangan, Jetis, Blora District, Blora Regency. The object of this study is the ability to think critically in solving social arithmetic problems for class VII at MTs. Khozinatul 'Ulum. The subjects in this study were seventh-grade students at MTs. Khozinatul 'Ulum for the 2020/2021 school year. Data1collection techniques1carried out1by researchers are tests, interviews, 1and documentation. The1validity of1the data1in this study1used triangulation1techniques. Data1analysis techniques in this study were carried out by 1) data reduction, 2) data presentation, and 3) data verification. The results of this study can be seen that the high category students are able to meet all categories of critical thinking namely, elementary clarification, basic support, inference, advanced clarification, and strategies and tactics on all question numbers. Middle category students are able to meet all categories of critical thinking namely, elementary clarification, basic support, inference, advanced clarification, and strategies and tactics on question number one. On question number two, students are less precise in indicators of elementary clarification and strategies and tactics, students are able to meet the indicator of basic support and students are not able to meet the indicators of inference and advanced clarification. On question number three, students are less precise in indicators of elementary clarification and students are able to meet the indicators of basic support, inference, advanced clarification, and strategies and tactics. Low category students are unable to meet all categories of critical thinking namely, elementary clarification, basic support, inference, advanced clarification, and strategies and tactics on all question numbers.
