Abstract
One of the treatment Hypertension is non-pharmacological therapy or traditional therapy. Tomato is one of the easiest Fruit to find. There are inconsistent studies that state tomat juice has an effect on lowering blood pressure. The content of tomatoes that help lower blood pressure are potassium and lycopene which play a role in inhibiting the release of renin and preventing the formation of free radicals. The study aimed to examine several scientific articles that discuss the effect of tomato juice (Lycopersicum commune) on blood pressure in patients with hypertension. This study used a critical review method based on selected research articles. Search articles using Google scholar and Garuda, articles searches using the keywords hypertension, tomato juice and blood pressure. The selected articles had a national reputation of sinta1-4. The provision of tomato juice in all articles shows statistically significant reduction in blood pressure (p<0,05). In systolic blood pressure decreased by about 4,4 mmHg (3,4%) to 12,67 mmHg (8,3%) and in diastolic blood pressure decreased by about 3,1 mmHg (3,2%) to 7,33 mmHg (7,7%). All articles showed that administration of tomato juice which contained lycopene and potassium could reduce blood pressure in people with hypertension.
