Abstract

This study aims to describe the development of the batik business during the COVID-19 pandemic. This type of research is a qualitative research with an ethnographic research design. The object of this research is the batik business in the Laweyan batik village. While the subjects are business owners, employees and buyers. Data collection techniques using interviews, documentation and observation. The validity of this research uses triangulation techniques and sources. The results showed that: (1) The development of the Laweyan batik business during the covid-19 pandemic was carried out by selecting business ideas from various sources, selecting business ideas by looking at field conditions, business planning utilizing social media and implementing business by optimizing social media and e-commerce. (2) Obstacles in developing the batik business during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as lack of capital, reduced production, rising prices of raw materials and limited space for movement, such as the lockdown, PSBB and PPKM. (3) Solutions to face obstacles in the development of the batik business during the COVID-19 pandemic are carried out by updating products, optimizing the use of social media and e-commerce and maintaining cash flow. The strategies implemented are: product updates, discounts and paid advertising.
