Abstract

This study aimed at describing students' abilities in writing descriptive texts for class and describing the problems faced in compiling descriptive texts in class X SMK Negeri 1 Plupuh in 2020/2021 academic year. This research was conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Plupuh, especially for students of class X RPL A. The type of research used in this study was a qualitative research with a descriptive design. Methods collection data in this study use document , interview and observation. Then, the data analysis technique in this study used qualitative analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that the ability of students in compiling descriptive texts for class X SMK Negeri 1 Plupuh for the academic year 2020/2021 is known that from a total of 30 students there are 8 students or (26.7%) in the very good category, 19 students (63.3 %) is in the good category, 1 student or (3%) is in the medium category, and 2 students (6.7%) are in the bad category. Most of the students achieve good grades. This means that the number of students were scored the most 61-80 was 19 students (63.3%). This shows that the students of class X RPL A SMK Negeri 1 Plupuh are included in the good category in compiling descriptive texts. Then, several problems faced by students in compiling descriptive texts for class X students of SMK Negeri 1 Plupuh in 2020/2021 academic year. These problems include continuous use of the first language, students have limited vocabulary and still use original vocabulary without explanation and grammar problems related to the use of present tense, subject-verb agreement, part of speech and usage subject, verb and connecting verb.
