Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the student's reception of the poem "Diponegoro". Sources of data from the study were 20 junior high school students. While the data used in this study is reception data on the poem "Diponegoro" by Chairil Anwar and books and journal articles that have relevance to strengthen statements and arguments and complement the results of this study. The technique for collecting data in this study was an open questionnaire. This study uses reception analysis based on student responses and responses to the provided poetry. This analysis also uses descriptive data analysis. The reader's reception emphasizes the freedom of the reader's argument, as long as the argument is considered good and can be accounted for. The reception will change as each individual's experience and knowledge of literature increases. The results of this study indicate that after the provision of material aimed at improving literary competence and understanding of literary reception theory in a simple way, students' literary appreciation abilities become better. Not only that, students can appreciate the differences in the answers given by their classmates. As a result, the class becomes more lively, mutual respect increases and each student has the confidence to express their arguments. The benefits obtained from this research will provide an overview of students' interest in learning literature, as well as their ability to respond to poetry. This research can also be an illustration to develop a fun and not teacher-centered literary learning.
