Abstract
Boarding students who live separately from their parents should be able to choose consumption patterns that will be applied in daily life wisely by considering the needs and also the supplies of funds they have. Around 70% of teenagers still make food choices without paying attention and considering health problems with food safety management as the main concern. Snack becomes the favorable food for boarding students who want to eat without having to bother cooking themselves, but based on research conducted by Ariefienda in 2018 on 16 meatball and pentol sellers around campus one UMS, there were 13 samples of positive borax with a percentage of 87.5% and research by Larasati in 2019 on 27 samples of processed meat snacks around the UMS campus, there were 4 samples positive for borax with a percentage of 12.9%. This study aimed to determine the correlation between knowledge and behavior of boarding students regarding the snacks safety around the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta campus. This study used a cross sectional design, the sample was selected by accidental sampling as many as 71 boarding students with the criteria of healthy, active students in semester 3 of the Faculty of Health Sciences UMS and willing to be respondents. Respondents' data on the level of knowledge and behavior of respondents towards snack food were obtained through a questionnaire with online media. For the level of knowledge of boarding students regarding the selection of snacks, the majority had moderate knowledge about the selection of snacks by 71.8%%. For the behavior of boarding students in choosing snacks, the majority had good behavior about choosing snacks by 59.1%. The results of the analysis using the Spearmant rank correlation showed that there was a correlation as evidenced by the value of 0.001 and the r value of 0.37 indicating a unidirectional correlation between knowledge and behavior regarding the selection of snacks. This study can be concluded that there is a correlation between knowledge and behavior in choosing snacks.
