Abstract

This study aims to describe the difficulties experienced by students in online learning in matrix material and to analyze the factors that cause difficulties in learning mathematics, especially in matrix material during online learning in class XI students of SMA Negeri 4 Pekalongan. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. As for the subjects in this study were class XI students of SMA Negeri 4 Pekalongan for the 2020/2021 academic year. Data collection techniques used in this study were tests, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data used technical triangulation. Data analysis through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions and verification. The results of this study indicate that the types of difficulties experienced by students are: (1) The students' difficulties in understanding the questions, namely students have difficulty understanding the symbols in the matrix and the concept of the matrix; (2) The students' difficulties in transforming the questions were the students had difficulty in determining the formula to solve the questions given; (3) The difficulty of the students in the process of solving the questions was the difficulty of the students in carrying out arithmetic operations and were not careful in the process of finding the final answer. The internal factors that affect students' learning difficulties in the matrix material are psychological factors, while physiological factors are less influential. The external factors that influence are family and school conditions, while the community is less influential.
