Abstract

The teacher certification program has been implemented since 2007 after the issuance of Minister of National Education Regulation Number 18 of 2007 concerning Certification for In-service Teachers. This certification program is implemented with the aim of increasing teacher competence as professional teaching staff. Based on previous research, it was found that some teachers did not make efforts to improve their professional competence after passing certification. Therefore, with this research, the researcher wanted to provide an overview of the professional competence of certified teachers at SDN 01 Plumbon. The objectives of this study were to: 1) describe the professional competence of certified teachers at SDN 01 Plumbon; 2) describe the efforts of certified teachers at SDN 01 Plumbon to improve professional competence; 3) describe the problems faced by certified teachers at SDN 01 Plumbon in an effort to improve professional competence. This type of research used in this research is qualitative research. The informants in this study were the principal and 2 class teachers. The data collection techniques used in this study were interview and documentation techniques. The validit y of the data obtained was tested using triangulation of techniques and sources. The analysis technique uses data reduction, researchers analyze data about the professional competence of certified teachers. The results of this study indicate that: 1) the professional competence of certified teachers at SDN 01 Plumbon is good enough, this can be seen from their performance that is in accordance with their professional demands; 2) teachers at SDN 01 Plumbon always try to improve professional competence by doing various self-development efforts such as: self-reflection, making Classroom Action Research reports, participating in various training activities, workshops, education and training, and KKG; 3) There are several problems that teachers must face in their efforts to improve professional competence, including limited facilities and infrastructure and limited time.
