Abstract
The objectives of this study are: 1) Describe the implementation of HOTS learning in applying the 2013 curriculum at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta. 2) Describe the role of the teacher in the implementation of HOTS learning in the application of the 2013 curriculum at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta. 3) Describe the role of the teacher in the implementation of HOTS learning in the application of the 2013 curriculum at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta. This type of research uses a qualitative description approach. The design in this study uses the design of phenomology. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Based on the research results obtained, 1) the implementation of learning can be done even though not in full because the teacher or homeroom teacher still combines with conventional methods the level of student ability that is different from one another becomes an obstacle in the implementation of HOTS learning as a whole. 2) the role of the teacher or homeroom teacher is good enough by doing some variations in the delivery of teaching material, and trying to get students to think better. The teacher or homeroom teacher plays an active role starting from the preparation of lesson plans, implementing learning in class and evaluating after learning. 3) the main obstacle faced by the teacher or homeroom teacher is the level of ability of students who are different from one another and there are students who are active in the learning process do not always get good grades for written tests and vice versa.
