Abstract

This study aims to describe the development of character education for independence and responsibility for children of TKW families in Karangampel Village, Indramayu Regency, West Java along with the obstacles and solutions. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. Collecting data in this study using interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique used interactive model analysis. The validity was done by using triangulation of data sources and triangulation of data collection techniques. Indicators of self-reliance character education include encouraging people not to depend on others, encouraging them to behave based on their own initiative, and developing the ability to meet their needs with their own efforts. The indicators of responsibility character education include developing self-control abilities, developing self-discipline abilities, and developing the ability to complete tasks on time. The results of this study indicate that independence character education has taken place in TKW's family children. It is done by teaching them to do their duties and obligations, advising them, and teaching children to eat alone without being fed and wash their own shoes. Responsibility character education is also carried out well. Performed by praying five times a day, applying discipline in learning time, doing school work, and worshiping and planning in advance. Constraints experienced in character education for independence in children are still lack of confidence in their abilities, are still lazy to do assignments, and parents do not believe in children's abilities. The solution is to guide, motivate, and set an example. The obstacles experienced in providing responsibility character education are children who are easily angry, violating playing time, and addicted to gadgets. The solution is to familiarize children with TPA activities, be firm and impose sanctions, and supervise and impose limits on gadget use. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that there must be good cooperation between families, schools and the community to develop character education for independence and responsibility in children.
