Abstract
The purpose of this research is to know the correlation between peer social support with academic stress. The hypothesis is that there is a negative relation between the social support with academic stress student. Population in this research is psychology student of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta year of force 2016 amounted to 228 people with sample 100 people. The sampling technique used in this research is quota sampling technique. The method used is quantitative with measurement tools such as Academic Stress Scale and Scale of Peer Social Support. Data analysis was done by product moment analysis using SPSS for 16 windows help program. Based on result of data analysis for hypothesis obtained coefficient correlation rxy value of – 0.468 sig. = 0.000 (p ≤ 0.01) it means there is a very significant negative relation between the peer social support with the academic stress student. If the positive peer social support of academic stress student is low, but if the peer social support is negative then the academic stress student is high. The effective contribution (SE) of peer social support towards the academic stress is 22%, the rest 78% influenced by other factor. Variables of peer social support have empirical mean (RE) that pertained high. While the variable of academic stress have empirical mean (RE) that pertained low.
