Abstract

The study aims to to analyze the personality development of Amir, the main character, in The Kite Runner novel by Khaled Hosseini. The object of the study is novel of The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The data are facts and description of the personality development of the main character, Amir, in the novel. Then, the writer takes, compares, quotes, and reads other data to reach compact information about the topic. Finally, the writer classifies the data supporting the topic of personality development based on psychosocial theory and draws conclusion. The result of the study shows that the personality development of the main character, Amir, in The Kite Runner novel is as follow: 1) Trust, Amir built his trust on people around him during infant. 2) Initiative and guilt, Amir learnt from his teacher that Hazaras was people of servants. He had initiative to look Hazaras, Ali and Hassan, as inferior. He also felt guilty because of his behavior, his envy, toward Hassan. 3) Industry, Amir increased his self-awareness of his superiority toward Hassan and his flying kite competition as his champion to get Baba’s attention. 4) Identity and role confusion, Amir’s identity crisis happened when he betrayed Hassan which changed his entire life because of his hatred toward Hassan of reducing his father love, but he also loved him of rescuing from Assef and his friends many times. 5) Intimacy, Amir built it to his Baba, Soraya, and Sohrab, the son of Hassan. It made him better in life because he had never haunted by his betrayal toward Hassan in the past time.
