Abstract
This study aims to: 1) Describe the characteristics of the national spirit through scouting extracurricular activities, 2) Describe the characteristics of social caring characters in students through scouting extracurricular activities, 3).Describe characteristics that can strengthen the character of national spirit and social care for students through scouting extracurricular activities. This research was conducted at SMP Asy-Syifa Sukoharjo Boarding School. Methods of data collection using interviews, observation, and documentation. The validity of the data in this study used the triangulation of techniques and sources. The results showed that: 1) the characteristics of the national spirit, namely: a. Participate in the flag ceremony, b. Using Indonesian in speaking, c. Singing Indonesian Raya songs and other compulsory songs, d. Cooperate with friends from other tribes, ethnicities and cultures based on equal rights. 2) the characteristics of social care, namely: a. Treating others politely, b. Involved in community activities, c. love peace in the face of problems. 3) the characteristics of strengthening the character of the national spirit and social care, namely: a). Provide motivation and punishment for students to participale in the flag ceremony, b). Getting used to speaking in Indonesian in the school environment and also during scout extracurricular activities, c). Teaching students to get used to singing the Indonesian Raya song in class before the KBM begins and when going home from school, d). Group students into groups and given tasks such as cleaning the school environment, e). Applying the 5S principle, 6 noble traits to students and tausyiah which contains the arguments for being polite, f). Involvement in community service is an example to give students an understanding of the importance of social care in society, g). Resolving problems by deliberation.
