Abstract
The use of metal as a support for human life cannot be separated from the progress of science. One method used to make metals is by casting methods. Research on mold variations on microstructure density and structure and various research results related to mold variations on microstructure density and structure with aluminum raw material from the former piston. In this study using the method of sand casting, die gravity casting and centrifugal casting with a pouring temperature at 750 ° C and a rotational speed of a 700 rpm centrifugal casting motor with a variation of the mold slope of 0˚. Calculation of density is done by calculating the mass and volume of the cast. Testing the microstructure of the castings using a metallographic microscope (ASTM E3-11). The results of the calculation of the density of sand casting 2.6631 gr / cm3, gravity casting 2.6972 gr / cm3 and centrifugal casting with mold slope 0˚ 2.7054 gr / cm3. The results of the observation of the micro structure consist of α (Al) phase and β (Si) phase. In the sand casting phase β (Si) is more tenuous and granular shape is greater, gravity casting phase β (Si) is more dense and granules are more equivalent to centrifugal casting phase β (Si) homogeneous and more dense as well.
