Abstract

Character education is an effort that is systematically structured and implemented to help students become human beings who behave well. The practice of character education occurs in various educational institutions and schools in Indonesia. One of them is Pesma KH Mas Mansur, which is a student boarding school under the auspices of the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Conducting guidance for students to become pious people, have a polite personality, have extensive knowledge and have good character. This study discusses character education methods in improving student discipline at the KH Mas Mansur Islamic Boarding School, while the formulation of this research problem discusses how character education methods in improving student discipline at KH Mas Mansur Islamic Boarding School and what are the supporting and inhibiting factors in improving student discipline at Pesma. KH Mas Mansur. The research objectives are to describe the character education method in improving student discipline, and to identify supporting and inhibiting factors for character education in improving student discipline. This research includes field research with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques using interview methods, observation and documentation. Data analysis used qualitative descriptive through 3 stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Drawing conclusions using inductive analysis techniques, namely describing the facts obtained from the field and then analyzed. The results showed that the character education method applied in improving student discipline were first, internalization method, second, exemplary method, third, habituation method, fourth, advice method, fifth, reward method. Supporting factors that influence internally are self-awareness and good mastery of religious knowledge. Externally, namely disciplined friends, support from family, a conducive environment, regulations, and disciplined administrators. Inhibiting factors that affect internally are lack of mastery of religious knowledge, online games, and fatigue. Externally, there are many college assignments, student activists, low discipline of the board, and the unbalance between the Pesma and the outside environment.
