Abstract

Students who have not been able to solve math problems in the form of story problems, students' reasoning skills are needed to solve problems in the form of story problems, one of which is in the material of the two-variable linear equation system. This study aims to describe the mathematical reasoning abilities of students in solving story problems of the two-variable linear equation system for class VIII. This research method is qualitative research. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura in the 2019/2020 academic year based on their mathematical abilities. Data collection techniques using tests and interviews. The validity of the data in this qualitative study used technical triangulation. Data analysis techniques used data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the reasoning ability of students with high mathematical abilities could fulfill 4 indicators of mathematical reasoning, the reasoning abilities of students with moderate mathematical abilities could fulfill 3 indicators, and the reasoning abilities of students with low mathematical abilities could fulfill 2 indicators.
