Abstract

The purpose of this study are (1) Describe the use of composite or compound words in essays of students of class VIII MTs Muhamaadiyah 2 Giritontro. (2) Describe the type of composite or compound word that is most dominant used by students of class VIII of MTs Muhammadiyah 2 Giritontro in writing essays. The research method in this research is done by reading and taking notes, that is by reading and observing the entire text that is used as the object of research. After being read then continued with note taking technique that is recording research data in the form of composite or compound words. The results of this study indicate that (1) In general, VIII grade students of MTs Muhammadiyah 2 Giritontro were able to use compositeum or compound words in essays well with a percentage of 66.67%, out of these 12 essays found 7 essays of students contained compositeum or compound words. Researchers found 8 composites from 7 students' essays. (2) Types of compound words contained in the student essay there are 4 types of composite, namely composite based on its nature there are 2 pieces of compositeum or endocentric compound words, compositeum based on meaning there are 1 compositeum or reasonable compound words, compositeum based on its composition there are 4 pieces of compositeum or Comprehensive compound words, and compositeum based on the nature and structure there is 1 compositeum or dwandwa compound words
