Abstract

Disaster mitigation education an important thing in the Gantiwarno district considering that the district belongs to the first potential area of earthquake disasters. The research aimed to: (1) develop instructional media using pop-up book of Earthquake material, (2) know the feasibility of media pop-up book of earthquake material on disaster preparedness extracurricular in SMP Negeri 1 Gantiwarno, and (3) know the effectiveness of pop-up book media in earthquake material at disaster preparedness extracurricular in SMP Negeri 1 Gantiwarno. This research and development used modified Borg & Gall Development Research model. The experimental design used one group pre-test post-test with 30 students as respondents. The data analysis technique used Paired Sample T-Test. The results of this study showed that: (1) The development of pop-up books using the Borg & Gall development model which had been modified into 6 steps, were: a) research and data collection that was conducting literature study and analysis of requirement test, b) planning that was to formulate the design of the components of pop-up book, c) development of product drafts that make the initial design of media and materials, d) preliminary field trials are the assessment stages by material experts and media experts, e) revised results of the completion stage based on preliminary field trial results, f) test of the field implementation of media in the research site. (2) Based on media feasibility assessment by material experts, media experts, teacher builders, and students showed an average rating of 4.6. This suggests that the media was worthy of use and belongs to the "excellent" category. (3) based on the hypothesis test results used the Paired Sample T-Test showed the significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. This indicated that the H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted which means there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test results. The result of N-Gain calculation score was obtained an average value of 58.50%. It can be concluded that the media pop-up book developed belongs to the category of "moderately effective".
