Abstract

This research aims to describe the use of STAD technique applied by teacher in teaching reading comprehension. This research was applied to the second grade students of SMP N 2 Banyudono. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The methods used in this study are observation, interview, and documentation. Data are taken from the results of field notes in class, copies of teacher and student interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study were English language teachers and the second grade students of SMP N 2 Banyudono. The results of this study indicate that students become active, more enthusiastic, and not bored in learning reading comprehension. Student responses indicate that the application of STAD techniques that teachers use to teach reading comprehension has a positive impact.
