Abstract

Individuals who are able to accept their strengths and weaknesses, will be better able to accept the others’s conditions, especially weaknesses. It isn’t easy to accept others’s weaknesses, like parents who have disabilities children. Parents must accept children's condition, especially children’s weaknesses because they’re gift from God. But there’re still parents who haven’t accept their disabilities children’s condition yet. This research is a qualitative research that aims to understand and describe self-acceptance in parents, acceptance of disabilities children and factors that influence it. There’re 5 respondents, they’re parents who have disabilities children from birth: blind/ low vision, physically disabled, deaf; domiciled in Boyolali and willing to become a respondent by filling in the Informed Consent. Data collection techniques using semi-structured interviews and data analysis using descriptive narrative analysis techniques. Based on the study’s results it can be concluded that 2 of 5 parents have high self-acceptance, while the other 3 have average self-acceptance. Even so, they’ve gone through different processes, in generally parents accept them with sincerity, grace, be thankful, increasing patience, and no ashamed or depressing about their children's condition. Factors that influence self-acceptance are self-understanding, realistic expectations, no environment obstacles, no heavy emotions, people’s pleasant attitude, and religion.
