Abstract
The pattern is a description of the shape of the product to be made. Patterns can be made from wood, plastic, sterofoam or metal. The choice of pattern material depends on the shape and size of the cast product, the dimensional accuracy, the number of cast products and the type of casting process used.. This study uses a plastic pattern as a pattern-making material and used aluminum or rosok which is remelting in an induction kitchen for casting with red sand mold. During this time the process of casting metal using a variety of different pattern positions can produce aluminum castings with their own characteristics and characteristics. These properties greatly influence the quality of aluminum castings products. The purpose of this study is the physical and mechanical properties of the results of aluminum castings with different media variations in pattern position. Data analysis showed that from the results of chemical composition testing found several elements, among others (Al) 82.58%, (Zn) 4.04%, (Fe) 8.54%, (Si) 3.62%, (Cu) 0.137 %. From the results of BHN hardness test obtained for variations in the position of standing patterns as much as 83.81 BHN, variations in the position of sleeping patterns of 99.501 BHN, and variations in the position of the reverse pattern of 79.07 BHN.
