Abstract

This research is based on student’s empathy which is declining, so in this study aimed to find out the level of student empathy seen from the immediate environment of student, which is the school culture and parenting style. This research is a quantitative research with a desciptive design. Research sample were 37 students. Data collection used was school culture questionnaire, parenting questionnaire, empathy questionnaire, observation, and documentation. The instrument test that was carried out was the validity and reliability test, while for the analysis requirements test it used normality test and linearity test. Data analysis techniques used are simple linear regression, multiple linear regression analysis, coefficient of determination, effective contribution, and relative contribution. The result showed that there was a positive and significant influence between school culture and parenting style on the empathy for 4th and 5th grade’s student of state elementary school Gajahan 2018/2019 school year. These result can be known through the calculation of the effective contribution of school culture to empathy of 40,21%. While for parenting style towards empathy get results of 22,79%.
