Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of peer conformity with the consumer behavior of buying cosmetic products on female college students. Consumptive behavior that is continuously carried out will result in negative student behavior, increasing the financial performance of female students not being able to meet their own needs. Negative behavior such as using tuition, lying to parents, and stealing parents' money. The hypothesis proposed is that there is a relationship between peer conformity and consumptive behavior of buying cosmetic products on female students. The population in this study were 900 active psychology students at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The sampling technique uses incidental sampling technique. The data collection tool in this study uses peer conformity scales and consumptive behavior. Data analysis was performed by product moment analysis using SPSS for 16.0 windows. Based on the results of data analysis, the correlation coefficient (rxy) was 0.181 and sig. (p) = 0.072 (p ≥ 0.05) which means there is no significant relationship between peer conformity and consumptive behavior of buying cosmetic products on female students. The peer conformity variable has an empirical average (RE) of 72.41 and a hypothetical mean (RH) of 47.5 which means that active psychology female students at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta have very high peer conformity. Consumptive behavior variable has an empirical average (RE) of 52.30 and a hypothetical mean (RH) of 80 which means that active psychology female students at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta have relatively low consumptive behavior.
