Abstract
This study aims to determine the relationship between the intensity of social media use and consumptive behavior on female students. The hypothesis proposed is that there is a positive relationship between the intensity of the use of social media and the consumptive behavior of female students. The population in this study were students of the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta totaling ± 8000 female students with a sample of 155 people. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling technique. The method used in the research is quantitative with measuring instruments in the form of Intensity Scale of Social Media Usage and Consumptive Behavior Scale. Data analysis techniques are carried out by product moment analysis using the SPSS for 16 windows program. Based on the results of data analysis obtained rxy correlation coefficient of 0,059 and sig = 0.147 (p ≤ 0.01) means that there is no relationship between the intensity of the use of social media with consumptive behavior on female students. Based on the results of categorization of the level of intensity of social media use in Surakarta Muhammadiyah University female students is high, that is many as 77 female students (49%), while the consumptive behavior is relatively low as many as 79 female students (51%)
