Abstract

This research aims to describe 1) the implementation of counseling services at Elementary School of Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta 2) the role of classroom teachers in conducting counseling services at Elementary School of Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta 3) the obstacles of classroom teachers in conducting guidance and counseling services at Elementary School of Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta 4)the solutions made by classroom teachers in facing obstacles when conducting guidance and counseling services at Elementary School of Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta. The type of this research is qualitative research with a qualitative descriptive design. The informants of this study were principals and grade 5 teachers. Technique of collection data were observation, interviews, and documentation. The data validity of this research was source triangulation and methods. The results showed that: 1) the implementation of counseling services in elementary schools was very good because it was carried out in accordance with the principles of guidance counseling services, in accordance with the purpose of guidance and counseling, carrying out various types of counseling services as well as implementing structured and solving client problems. 2) The role of the class teacher in carrying out counseling and guidance services is as a class teacher and as an executor of counseling services in schools and assisted by psychologists. 3) The obstacles of classroom teachers in conducting guidance and counseling services are limit in the time of services and need more time to consult with psychologist and guardians of the students because they do not realize that their children have the problems.4) The solution of the classroom teachers in facing obstacles when conducting counseling services is that the implementation is not only done in class but also outside the classroom and always communicates with professional staff, psychologists, and always make socialization and communication with the guardians of the students to develop academic or Non-Academic ability of student.
