Abstract

This study aims to Describe the independent character education carried out by the teacher, Describe the supporting factors and teacher inhibiting factors in forming independent character, Describe the teacher's solution to overcome obstacles in forming independent character in low-grade students at Muhammadiyah Elementary School PK Kottabarat Surakarta. Type and design of qualitative descriptive research. Source of research data for principals, low grade teachers. Techniques for collecting data on interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Data checking uses triangulation techniques. This research produces three things. (1) independent character education carried out by teachers can be seen from aspects of self-development, integration in subjects, and school culture. In the aspect of self-development seen from routine activities, spontaneous, conditioning, and exemplary. In aspects of integration in subjects seen from active learning for students, providing assistance to students who have difficulty in internalizing independent characters, using habituation strategies through school culture. In the aspect of school culture, it is seen from the creation of school atmosphere and policies, involving students in decision making, and carrying out tadarus activities before KBM (2) Factors supporting adequate facilities, exemplary and habituation. The inhibiting factors of children's capture differ, the lack of students' awareness of school rules (3) Solutions to overcome barriers to communicating with parents of students, so that schools can cooperate in forming independent character values in students and teachers providing real examples that can form independent characters students.
