Abstract
This study aims to describe the students' problem solving abilities in solving the problem of geometric stories in terms of student IQ. This type of research is qualitative descriptive. The subjects of this study were class VIII C at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta academic year 2018/2019. The data collection methods used are documentation of the results of the tests and interviews. The validity of the data used is the triangulation technique. Subject taking techniques are based on students' IQ levels so that 6 subjects of class VIII C are obtained with low, medium, and high IQ categories. Based on data analysis and discussion obtained: (1) Understanding the problem: students with low IQ abilities cannot understand the problem in all numbers but there are students who can understand the questions in all numbers. Students with moderate IQ abilities can understand problems in all numbers. Students with high IQ abilities can understand problems in 3 numbers. (2) Planning: students with low IQ abilities can plan problems in 2 numbers. Students with moderate IQ abilities can plan problems in 3 numbers. Students with high IQ abilities can plan problem solving on 3 numbers. (3) Implement: students with low IQ abilities cannot carry out the solution plan, but there are students who can carry out the 3 problems. Students with moderate IQ abilities can implement 3 problems. Students with high IQ abilities can carry out plans on 2 numbers. (4) Looking back: students with low IQ abilities cannot look back on answers but there are students who can look back. Students with IQ abilities are being able to look back at the 2 number questions. Students with high IQ abilities can look back at the 3 question numbers.
