Abstract

This study aims to: 1) describe the planning, implementation and evaluation of strengthening the character of the fondness of reading and the curiosity of students through the school literacy movement in SD Muhammadiyah PK Kottabarat Surakarta, 2) describing what obstacles are faced in strengthening character like reading and curiosity students, 3) describe how solutions to overcome obstacles in implementation. This type of research is qualitative descriptive. Research Subjects are principals, curriculum waka, librarians, teachers and students. Data collection techniques used: observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique uses an interactive model analysis: data reduction, presenting data, drawing conclusions and verification. the validity of the data using source triangulation and method triangulation. The research results are as follows:1)Strengthening the character like to read; strengthening curiosity character; planning, implementation, and evaluation of GLS, the implementation of the program has reached 3 stages, namely the stages of habituation, development, and learning. 2) The obstacles are: the motivation to read some students is still low, the lack of a collection of books, infrastructure that is not optimal, lack of literacy programs. 3) Solution to problem solving, namely by motivating students, providing good facilities (infrastructure), updates and additions to the collection of books in the library and reading classrooms, innovating new programs to improve students' literacy skills.
