Abstract

This study aims to, 1) examine the differences in reasoning skills in solving mathematical problems with PISA-oriented content quantity in terms of gender differences. 2) describing students' reasoning ability in solving PISA-oriented math problems content quantity. 3) analyzing the causes of students having difficulty in solving the PISA oriented problem content content quantity. This study uses mixed method research. Data collection techniques consist of test methods, interviews and documentation. This research in testing the validity of the data using technique triangulation and source triangulation techniques. Qualitative data analysis techniques using the stages of normality test, homogeneity test, and T-Test (Independent Samples Test). Quantitative data analysis techniques use stages of data collection, data reduction, data purification and verification. The results showed that: 1) the ability to reason students in solving PISA-oriented questions on content quantity there was no significant difference in terms of gender. 2) High-ability students are able to fulfill all indicators of reasoning ability well, students with moderate and low ability are not able to understand and solve problems to the maximum so that they are only able to meet several indicators. 3) the factors that cause students difficulties in solving mathematical problems with PISA-oriented content quantity are lack of confidence in students, inaccuracy of students in calculating and reading information, lack of students' ability to understand questions, and students unable to determine a pattern of various relationships.
