Abstract

History explains that humans first recognize images or symbols to communicate ideas to others. This proves that humans are visual creatures that will more quickly digest meaning through visuals than writing (Sudarman, 2014: 2). Surakarta City, which is one of the largest cities in the Central Java region and is on the JOGLOSEMAR line, only has 1 vocational high school that opens special subjects in the field of animation. However, several universities have opened departments related to animation such as the Department of Visual Communication Design at the Surakarta Indonesian Art Institute. The aim of planning Surakarta Animation School is to accommodate interests and talents without requiring prior education limitations because in addition to students from universities who want to sharpen their talents about making animation, young children and advanced adults also want to channel talents and learn animation without requiring educational limitations and age. The Surakarta Animation School building uses the Green Architecture approach which means that a building that requires a lot of energy for computerized purposes must save energy use as much as possible to achieve the goal of green architecture itself. Some of the things emphasized in the green architecture of the Surakarta Animation School Building are lighting savings in theoretical classrooms, savings in the theory classrooms, and reuse of used water and rainwater that can still be used for other purposes.
