Abstract
The role of the principal is very important in improving the quality of learning in Islamic religious education, because the principal as the manager of an educational institution or school manager whose managerial authority is far broader and stronger than the Islamic Education teacher. While The Islamic Education teachers are only class managers and learning managers but also very influential in improving the quality of learning in Islamic religious education. The purpose of this study was to describe the management of principals in improving the quality of Islamic Education learning and supporting and inhibiting factors of school principals in improving the quality of learning in Islamic Religious Education at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta Academic Year 2018/2019. This type of research is a qualitative field research with a phenomenological approach. This research conducted in SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta. The subjects of this study were principals, Islamic Education teachers, and vice principals. Methods of collecting data using interviews, observation, and documentaries. This study uses reflective data analysis techniques. The results of the study show that: 1) the management of the principal in improving the quality of Islamic Education learning is managed by organizing curriculum, infrastructure, student affairs and educational staff. The principal organizes structurally as assistant principal, called Deputy Principal, namely Deputy Principal of Curriculum, Deputy Principal of Infrastructure, and Deputy Principal of Student Affairs. The four management, according to their position, prepare and provide the learning needs of Islamic Education at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta. The Principal organize the teacher and regulate how the teacher prepare the learning device. The implementation of learning, lessons at Muhammadiyah School, is identical to ISMUBA. The character of Islamic studies, Muhammadiyah and Arabic, is part of improving the quality of learning in Islamic Education at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta. 2) Factors supporting school principals in improving the quality of learning in Islamic Religious Education at Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta Vocational High School are discipline and exemplary teacher, outstanding and talented students, and the existence of prayer rooms. The inhibiting factors are lack of learning facilities, inadequate libraries, and limited funds.
