Abstract
This study aims to improve problem solving skills and mathematics learning outcomes with problem solving methods student of class VII C SMP Batik Surakarta. This type of research is classroom action research. Classroom action research is implemented in two cycles. Data collection technique use the method of observation, field notes, documentation, and test. The data analysis technique uses three stages namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The validity of the data uses investigator triangulation techniques. The results showed an increase in problem solving skils and mathematics learning outcomes with indicator: 1) students’s ability in understand mathematical problems before the action as many as 12 students (35.29%), in the fisrt cycle there were 25 students (73.52%), and in the second cycle to 30 students (88,23%), 2) student’s ability in planning completion before action as many as 11 students (32.35%), in the fisrt cycle there were 23 students (67.64%), and in the second cycle to 29 students (85.29%), 3) student’s ability to solve the problems as planned before the action as many as 9 students (26.47%), in the fisrt cycle there were 20 students (58.82%), and in the second cycle (79.41%), 4) student’s ability to review the completion before action as many as 5 students (14.70%), in the fisrt cycle there were 16 students (47.05%), and in the second cycle to 25 students (73.52%), 5) mathematics learning outcomes before the action as many as 12 students (35.29%), in the fisrt cycle there were 21 students (61.76%), and in the second cycle to 28 students (82.35%). Keywords: problem solving skill, problem solving method, mathematics learning outcomes
