Abstract
This study aims (1) Explain the presentation of reading material in grade VII Indonesian textbooks in SMP and (2) Explain the relevance of the presentation of reading material in grade VII SMP Indonesian textbooks in terms of learner characteristics. The type of research used in this research is qualitative descriptive. The source of this research data is a document, namely Erlangga's VII grade SMP Indonesian textbook. The data of this study are in the form of reading material contained in Erlangga's VII grade junior high school Indonesian textbook. The data collection technique uses the technique to see and note. The validity of the data in this study uses theoretical triangulation. This study uses content analysis techniques. Based on the results of the study of 60 reading material data, there are 11 data that are irrelevant to students, because of the characteristics related to initial abilities, such as: intellectual ability, thinking ability, and mobility. Second, there are 46 data that are not relevant to students because of characteristics related to background and socio-cultural status. Third, 3 data that are not relevant to students because of the characteristics relating to personality differences, such as: traits, attitudes, feelings, interests and so on.
