Abstract

This study aims to understand and describe the experience of early adolescents as the youngest child, and the relation of siblings to the youngest child. This study uses a descriptive analytical qualitative approach, data collection using semi-structured interview techniques. The informants of this study were 8 people, consisting of 4 main informants and 4 supporting informants obtained through the snowball sampling technique with criteria for the age range of the main informants 11-15 years, and having at least 1 sibling living in a house, and supporting informant criteria namely the siblings who live in the same house as the main informant. Data analysis using theme analysis. This research is important because the relation of siblings to the youngest child entering adolescence with older siblings is rarely revealed in the repertoire of family psychology. This is indicated by the lack of references related to sibling relations, especially to the youngest child. The results showed that the experience of the youngest child consisted of the role of the youngest child, the impression of being the youngest child, the way the youngest child solved the problem, the views of the youngest child towards siblings, the knowledge of the youngest siblings, and the different attitudes of siblings. The dynamics of sibling relations are 2, namely harmony which consists of affection between siblings, closeness to siblings, admiration and pride, and emotional support, then there is tension which consists of quarrels, competition, relative power, and competition for parental attention.
