Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of emotional intelligence in the form of self-improvement, self-control, motivation, empathy, social skills, and learning behavior towards the level of understanding of accounting students. The population used in this study were all S1 Accounting students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, class of 2014-2015 who were still active in lectures. The sample in this study were 88 students, obtained using the Slovin formula. The sampling technique used in this study was using nonprobability sampling techniques. The analysis used in this study is multiple linear regression analysis which is processed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) program. The results showed that there was no significant influence between self-recognition of the level of student accounting understanding, there was no significant effect between self-control and the level of understanding of accounting students, there was no significant effect between motivation and the level of understanding of student accounting, there was no significant effect between empathy with the level of understanding of accounting students, there is no significant influence between social skills and the level of understanding of accounting students, there is a significant influence between learning behavior and the level of understanding of student accounting.
